Buff was a prominent Californian painter throughout the twentieth century. His works defy one dominant style and blend elements of California Impressionism with Modernist structure and composition. This piece, like many of his other mountain landscapes, emphasizes strong geometric lines, using bold colors laid down in mostly flat layers, with touches of white and yellow.
