A group of Native Americans make camp along a calm river. People gather around fires built just outside of their dwellings. The scene is dark—composed with deep green and brown grass accompanied by gray sweeping clouds above. The center of the painting is, however, beautifully lit. A cloud tucked deep in the background catches sunlight and spreads it across the landscape’s yellow grass, the dwelling’s walls, and the quiet river.
