Subdued blues and grays suggest a hazy, humid atmosphere awash this tropic scene, while the rough surface adds to the piece’s enigmatic quality. The suggestion of palm trees and a lagoon is almost ghostly, as though seen through a foggy veil. This mysterious scene seems almost at odds with the clear, breezy vision usually associated with the tropics; however, Reveron was known for his atmospheric, impressionistic work.
