A rancher sits mounted at the center of an enclosure, his back turned to the viewer as he oversees a herd of cattle tramping around him. The dusty landscape creates a hazy atmosphere, with the suggestion of rolling landscapes just visible in the distance. The red shirt of the figure adds a pop of color against the bright browns and grays of the surrounding. A lone tree stands a way off, its branches sagging.
