Two Native American women pause at a small stream for rest and a drink. The women—slightly angled toward one another—are engaged in a friendly conversation and accompanied by other riders in the distance. A baby sits at the leg of the woman on the right. The horses are outfitted with a Travois—a device commonly used to carry loads over land. The vibrancy in the yellows and greens of the vegetation, as well as the blues of the water and orange of the woman’s dress, emphasize life and movement in the painting.
